Manga, originating in Japan, has become a global phenomenon, captivating audiences worldwide. With its popularity rising, many non-Japanese individuals are eager to learn the craft. Japan, as the birthplace of Manga, offers unparalleled opportunities for aspiring artists.

The Japanese comic industry is strong, with specialized organizations and educational institutions nurturing talent and fostering connections within the industry. To provide for the growing interest, DEOW Japan presents a Private Intensive Manga Program, available online and in person. This unique course, conducted in English, personalize instruction to each student’s level, goals, and preferences, maximizing their learning experience. Made by DEOW, the program adopts a practical, coaching-style approach, focusing on practice and skill development to empower students to create Manga independently.

One-of-a-kind Manga training program

Nowhere else will you be able to find a program such as this, designed specifically to meet the needs of non-Japanese students interested in Manga. Taught in English by professional Japanese Manga artists.

As this program is 1-on-1, we can completely adapt the curriculum and experience based on your goals, level and preferences as you go, while providing you individualized feedback & support throughout the program. In this Private program, the classes can be flexibly arranged to fit your schedule, and we can also arrange tours of the city and meetings with manga industry professionals.

In this program, you can learn everything from the planning of your story to the technical skills of illustration. Our teachers train according to your level and style, so no experience is required.

All of our teachers and instructors are active in the industry and come with a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise. They will coach you based on what is most important and what works in practice.

Shibuya and Harajuku are iconic hotspots in Japan, representing modern youth culture. Shibuya is known for landmarks like the Hachiko statue and the famous Shibuya Crossing, along with its shopping scene, including Shibuya 109. Nearby Harajuku stands out for its vibrant street fashion, trendy cafes, and unique art, attracting fashion lovers and culture enthusiasts.

Asakusa offers a glimpse into old Tokyo, featuring the historic Sensoji Temple, traditional craft shops, and the Nakamise shopping district. The area also includes Japan’s oldest amusement park, Hanayashiki, and Sumida Park, with stunning views of Tokyo Skytree and popular events like cherry blossom viewing and fireworks. It’s a vibrant hub of Japanese subculture, energized by the passion of its enthusiasts.

Sample Program Schedule

In principle, classes can be arranged on any day of the week between 10am to 8pm. Classes are typically 2-3 hours each.

The standard duration of a program is typically 2 weeks (30 in-class hours). However, the number of classes and length of the program that we recommend is based on your goals:
-1 week or less is good for a light experience of Manga
-2 weeks is a standard length that can be adapted to both hobbyists and serious learners
-3 weeks or more is ideal for those who aspire to be professional and wish to develop their skills more deeply

This program trains you on the essentials of Manga from developing your main character, planning your story, and honing your practical skills of illustration so that you can begin creating your very own Manga.

True learning happens by doing, and there is only so much you can do in a short-term program. For this reason, our passionate manga artists offer you continued support & feedback on your work online after the program. Being able to get on-going feedback and helping you when you get stuck is a special support system we have for our students like no where else.
