About

Yu Language Academy (YULA) is the Tokyo school at 2-16-25 Okubo, Shinjuku. This page covers its long-term and short-term Japanese courses, not the different courses or fees of Yu International Cultural Academy, Sapporo or Osaka. The group has several schools; their recognition status must not be transferred to this Tokyo school. The current school-information page describes YULA’s certification application as in progress.

Learning and Student Support

Japanese learning combines grammar, communication, reading and writing from beginner to advanced levels. Small-class teaching, media/equipment use, supplementary lessons and individual feedback support progress; confirm the actual class size and placement.
University and vocational-school visits, JLPT/EJU preparation, education guidance, cultural events and support with daily life or health-insurance procedures are available. The tea room and Japanese-style garden described on the group site belong to Yu International Cultural Academy, not a confirmed facility at this YULA address.
Scholarships and financial support are selective and depend on attendance, achievement and other conditions; no award or part-time job is automatic. The group’s Yumeiro Café pages differ between JPY 360 and JPY 500 per meal, so confirm current eligibility and price rather than treating either as guaranteed.
Nearby student dormitories are listed jointly for the two Tokyo schools. Confirm the specific building, vacancy, private/shared room, rent, deposits, utilities and contract conditions. Housing and living costs are not in the course totals.

Application Conditions and Schedule

The school requires 12 years of schooling, eligibility for higher education, selection and financial support. Its English application page says applicants are generally under 29 and requests proof of at least 150 hours of Japanese study; the 2027 rules do not express the same age rule. Confirm the current individual requirements and exceptions rather than treating a general age statement as an absolute exclusion.
The published long-term schedule gives mid-November in the preceding year for April entry, January-mid-March for July, March-mid-May for October and July-mid-September in the preceding year for January. These are reference periods, not confirmation of current places; recruitment closes when full. Short-term applications are normally due one month before entry.
Prepare the school’s current application documents, academic and financial evidence and any required Japanese translations. COE and visa decisions are not guaranteed, and admission does not guarantee higher-education admission or employment.

Payment, Attendance and Refunds

The long-term screening fee of JPY 30,000 is separate from the displayed course totals and non-refundable. Six-month installments are published for the two-year course: JPY 460,000 first, then JPY 410,000 each, with screening charged separately. Confirm the actual invoice and whether installment terms apply to your course.

The rules marked effective April 1, 2027 distinguish withdrawal before admission, unavoidable mid-course withdrawal and dismissal. They exclude admission from a pre-entry refund and describe a conditional 30% tuition-related refund after deductions for unavoidable withdrawal; obtain the exact applicable calculation in writing before payment. Do not assume a full refund. Completion requires the prescribed study, at least 80% attendance and the required final assessments.

Long-Term Course

A structured course for Japanese-language development, further study and future plans, with cultural learning and guidance. The 2027 rules call the five durations Japanese Society Understanding courses; the general Web course page still calls them preparatory courses. These are course names and study aims, not a guarantee of university admission.

Monday-Friday, 09:00-12:20 or 13:00-16:20 according to the assigned class. The 2027 rules place the one-year and January courses in the morning section; confirm your timetable. Durations written as “1.3 / 1.6 / 1.9” on older pages mean years and months, not decimal years.

Add the separate JPY 30,000 screening fee once. These are whole-course school totals, not annual tuition: admission 50,000 plus duration-specific tuition, textbooks, facilities/equipment, activities and student insurance. For one year the components are 50,000 + 700,000 + 35,000 + 85,000; screening is not inside 870,000. The Japanese Web page dates its schedule from April 2025, and the linked April 2027 rules publish the same fee components. Obtain the invoice for your actual start date.

Short Term Course

Intensive Japanese for three months, with April, July, October or January starts. One- and two-month attendance remains available by consultation, subject to placement and permission to stay. Suitable temporary-visitor, working-holiday or other residence permission depends on the applicant; no visa or entry exemption is guaranteed.

The course retains level-based learning, teacher feedback, pronunciation/grammar support and cultural activities, subject to actual class arrangements. A shorter enrollment does not mean unrestricted choice of attendance days or hours.

The third component covers textbooks, activities and accident insurance as described on the Japanese fee page. Working-holiday visa holders are advertised as exempt from the JPY 25,000 admission charge, subject to proof and school confirmation; it is a waiver, not a JPY 25,000 total course price. Obtain individual quotes for one or two months rather than dividing the three-month total. Confirm all additional costs and refund terms.

Tokyo School Location

2-16-25 Okubo, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan. Official walking times: Shin-Okubo (JR Yamanote) 12 minutes, Higashi-Shinjuku (Oedo) 7 minutes, and Nishi-Waseda (Fukutoshin) 5 minutes. Confirm the route before visiting.
