About
Tokyo Visual Arts Academy (formerly Tokyo Visual Arts College) is a creative and entertainment vocational school in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Its 2027 international guide lists 26 two-year courses in Music, Photography, Video, Mass Media/Publishing/Entertainment and Performing Arts. Professional teaching, practical projects and collaboration across subjects support creative and career development.
2027 Recruitment Changes
Special Makeup stops recruiting from the 2027 intake. The previous standalone Vocal, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboard, PA, Lighting and Recording courses also stop recruiting. Dance is integrated into Performing Arts. Existing students, including 2026 entrants, continue their previous curriculum through graduation. This is not an immediate closure. The current Voice Actor course moves campus from sister Tokyo Cool Japan Academy. Individual successor relationships are not assumed for other old course names.
Learning and Student Support
- Practical productions, student events and collaboration with companies and other departments complement specialist study. Equipment access and opportunities depend on the course and school rules.
- Career and debut support includes guidance, portfolios and auditions; employment, agency representation and a professional debut are not guaranteed.
- The international-student page describes Japanese support classes and conversation practice, alongside accommodation introductions. Confirm support language, vacancies, prices, eligibility and all arrangements before applying. No scholarship, visa or accommodation is guaranteed.
2027 International Admission
- By March 2027: non-Japanese nationality, at least 18 years old, and completion of at least 12 years of schooling. Applicants must be committed to completing the programme.
- Meet one Japanese-language route: at least one year/760 hours of long-term Japanese education in Japan; at least one year at a Japanese Article 1 school; or JLPT N2+, EJU Japanese 200+ excluding writing, or BJT 400+. These are alternatives.
- Applicants attending a Japanese-language school or other institution in Japan need attendance of at least 80%. Designated-school recommendation also requires the school’s recommendation and exclusive application: A needs 90% attendance and N2/EJU200/BJT400; B needs 85% and N3-equivalent/EJU180-equivalent/BJT380-equivalent. Confirm the exact recognition and route with TVA.
- Selection includes documents, an interview and a written examination, with conditional written-test exemptions. A recommendation does not guarantee admission. Applications are listed from September 1, 2026 until capacity; overseas documents normally close at the end of November, with December or later requiring consultation. Confirm current openings.
Payments and Withdrawal
Follow the school’s individual payment deadline. For overseas admission the guide specifies the entrance fee within three weeks of the acceptance notice, followed by tuition around early February after the COE is issued, on the notified deadline. Payment, admission and visa approval are separate matters. Fees may be paid by semester; confirm the invoice.
Under the guide, withdrawal by March 31, 2027 permits refund of school fees except the application and entrance fees. From April 1, first-semester tuition is not refundable. An approved withdrawal between April 1 and September 30 may refund prepaid second-semester tuition less an administrative charge; from October 1 neither semester’s tuition is refundable.
