About

Founded in 1975, Sendagaya Group operates three Japanese-language schools in Tokyo. Its 50th-anniversary brochure reports more than 30,000 graduates by 2025. This page covers the College for university/vocational-school preparation, the Institute for graduate-school preparation, and the Language School for everyday and business Japanese. Select the course and campus suited to your goal.

Main Features

Practical Japanese and trained teachers

Balanced speaking, listening, reading and writing, with level placement by tests and interviews. The official FAQ describes teachers trained at Sendagaya or at universities; they are not all graduates of one training course.

Further-education guidance

Academic courses include JLPT/EJU preparation, basic subjects and application/interview guidance. The College offers a MEXT-designated preparatory education route for eligible students with 10 or 11 years of schooling; confirm individual admission and university eligibility. Results and recommendations are subject to each institution, not guaranteed admission.

Cultural exchange

School events, cultural activities and partner-university bridge opportunities may provide contact with Japanese students. Participation and recognition of credits depend on the program and partner; confirm availability.

Student Support and Housing

Official materials list Chinese, English, Vietnamese, Thai, Russian and Korean-speaking staff; confirm availability for your campus and date. Further-education and employment counseling are available. The official housing page lists school-managed and affiliate dormitories, including a male-only option. Vacancies, room type, rules, current charges and access must be confirmed; accommodation and living costs are separate from course fees.

Academic Japanese Course

At Sendagaya Japanese College, prepare for university or vocational-school entry through practical Japanese, JLPT/EJU, basic subjects and application/interview skills. The MEXT-designated preparatory route can address university-entry education requirements for eligible applicants; it is not a guarantee of entry.

Enrollment Periods and Duration

IntakeDuration
April24 months
October18 months

These are the standard published long-term routes. A separate April one-year course has not been confirmed. For a shorter arrangement, residents in Japan or early completion after entering further education/finding work, consult the school about availability, visa, payment and refund conditions; no independent one-year offer is promised.

Previously listed class times were Monday-Friday, morning 08:50-13:00 or afternoon 13:30-17:40. These times were not confirmed as current in the materials checked; ask the school for the campus schedule and allocated session rather than assume either can be chosen.

Course Fees: JPY

Official prices apply to admissions from April 2025, checked 14 October 2026. These are school fees, not tuition alone. Totals already include the listed application/registration fees; do not add them again. Extra learning materials, housing, daily living, travel and remittance costs are separate. Obtain the latest quotation for your intake.

Admission and Payment

Apply sufficiently early: the official procedure advises starting about six months before entry, then school screening and immigration documents. The FAQ says student-visa applicants normally need more than 150 hours of Japanese study; applicants below this should consult the school. Requirements, educational background and documents depend on your course and circumstances. School screening, COE and visa approval are not guaranteed.

The official process places tuition payment after COE issuance; the school sends the COE after confirming payment. Pay by international remittance or bank transfer; the FAQ says cards and electronic money are not accepted. Confirm the exact invoice and deadline. Refunds follow the linked regulations revised April 2025, not an unconditional refund promise: non-enrollment after COE issuance requires original certificates to be returned for eligible fee refunds; withdrawal after enrollment depends on the paid period, timing, school permission and status-related evidence. Application/registration fees are not listed among the refundable non-enrollment items. Obtain written conditions before paying.

Graduate School Preparatory Course

At Sendagaya Japanese Institute, prepare research plans, logical essays, presentations, discussion and graduate entrance examinations. A certain level of kanji proficiency is required for this course; applicants from non-kanji-language backgrounds are directed by the school to consult the academic route. A bachelor degree and advanced Japanese are requirements of many graduate destinations, not a blanket N1 entry requirement for this language course.
