About

Nagoya International Academy (NIA, 名古屋国際学院) is a Japanese language school at 55 Akegaoka, Meito-ku, Nagoya. It offers comprehensive Japanese, preparation for further education and short-term study. This is not the separate Nagoya International School of Japanese Language.

Japanese is studied from beginner to advanced levels, with practical communication, Japanese culture, EJU/JLPT preparation and educational guidance. Course levels, electives and business Japanese depend on class availability; a particular JLPT result or admission to further education is not guaranteed.

Preparatory Course

The preparatory course has April entry for two years and October entry for one year and six months. The published recurring application windows are 1 August-31 October before April entry and 1 February-30 April before October entry. For April 2027, confirm whether the 31 October 2026 deadline and available places apply to your application. October 2026 has already started; do not treat it as a forthcoming intake.

Monday-Friday, normally 20 lessons per week, each 45 minutes, with four lessons per day in an assigned morning or afternoon class. The comprehensive-course page lists 09:00-12:20 or 13:30-16:50. Confirm the actual timetable, class level and holiday calendar.

The school rules require age 18 or above, completion of 12 years of school education or an equivalent, valid/prospective permission to enter Japan and a reliable guarantor. Selection is by documents and interview. The currently linked outline requires evidence of 150 hours of Japanese study or JLPT N5-equivalent ability for the specified applicant/document categories, together with sponsor income and bank documents; its published bank-balance example is at least JPY 3,000,000. Documents and translation requirements differ by applicant category. Confirm the current checklist and immigration requirements; admission, COE and a visa are not guaranteed.

Checked 14 October 2026 against the outline currently linked by the official Japanese/English Downloads pages, marked 202308, and the school rules. These are published reference amounts, not a confirmed 2027 quotation. Year-one school fees of 774,000 exclude screening 25,500: initial school-plus-screening total is 799,500. Whole-course totals shown here include screening once: April 1,518,500 and October 1,159,800. The previously shown 1,493,000 and 1,134,300 excluded screening. Tax is included in the listed school fees, but amounts may change; obtain the final invoice. Housing, meals, transport, national health insurance, examination charges and transfer charges are not included.

The Japanese outline says screening is billed with school fees after COE issuance and not charged if COE is refused. Second-year fees are normally due one month before classes start. Cancellation and refund conditions depend on stage and documents: consult the full rules rather than assuming all fees are always refundable or non-refundable.

Short term Course

Short-term Japanese is available from one week, with shorter arrangements by consultation. Group lessons run five days a week; private lessons are arranged individually. Level placement, start date, duration and available classes must be confirmed. The English course page states completion of 12 years of education. Use a suitable, valid status of stay and confirm individual eligibility; this course does not automatically grant or extend a visa.

Published School Fees: JPY

English page: per dayJPY
Reference5,000

The English official page lists 5,000 per day as all-inclusive, but the Japanese page says prices vary by course and require a quotation. Treat 5,000 as a published reference, not a guaranteed current rate for every format. Confirm total tuition, materials and any additional fees before booking. Japanese group hours are 09:00-12:30 or 13:30-17:00; English group hours are 09:00-12:40 or 13:30-16:50. The school must confirm the assigned timetable. Do not add a compulsory registration fee or promise a free trial without confirmation.

The currently linked dormitory rules, effective 1 October 2024, specify shared rooms, entry fee 40,000, rent 32,000/month and utilities/communications 8,000/month, paid for an initial six-month dormitory period. This is a condition for dormitory entrants, not a statement that every student must live there. Early departure needs approval and can forfeit prepaid charges; additional excessive utility usage and later price changes may be charged. The English short-course page still shows older 30,000/month and entry 20,000 plus futon 7,000; use the newer dormitory rules as the reference and confirm current vacancy, room occupancy, bedding and applicability to a short stay. No room or short-stay accommodation is guaranteed.
