About

Meiji Academy is Japan’s first language school dedicated to teaching Communicative Japanese, helping students master everyday conversations and real-life situations with confidence. Unlike most schools that focus heavily on academic Japanese, Meiji Academy emphasizes practical speaking skills, listening comprehension, and the cultural nuances needed to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

With the smallest class sizes among accredited Japanese schools, Meiji Academy offers personalized attention and a family-like atmosphere where every student feels supported. Lessons are interactive and engaging, often incorporating roleplays, real-world scenarios, and exciting field trips. Students also have opportunities to connect with the local community through events and cultural activities, making the experience both educational and unforgettable.

The academy’s excellence is internationally recognized by government institutions and global platforms, a reflection of its dedication to student success. Founded in 2014 by an international team of former students who understood the challenges Western learners face, Meiji Academy has since welcomed thousands of students from around the world.

Long Term Course

Description

Looking to immerse yourself in Japan while steadily improving your Japanese? Meiji Academy’s Long-Term Course is one of the most popular options for students who want flexibility, practical learning, and plenty of time to experience Japanese life.

You can choose to study for 3 months (12 weeks) or extend to 6 months, making it perfect for students who want a deeper cultural and language experience without committing to a full student visa program. Many students even decide to continue after their initial term because of the engaging lessons, small class sizes, and strong community connections.

The course is open to students from countries with a visa waiver agreement with Japan or those eligible for a Working Holiday Visa. In many cases, no special visa is required for up to six months of study, and depending on your nationality, a 90-day tourist visa extension may also be possible while you are in Japan.

Please note: This program does not fall under a student visa. Meiji Academy’s Student Visa Course is currently under revision and not available for new intakes from April 2025 onwards. Updates on future visa-sponsored programs will be announced at a later date.

With flexible enrollment, engaging lessons focused on real-life Japanese, and plenty of opportunities to connect with locals, Meiji Academy’s Long-Term Course is an excellent choice for students who want to make the most of their time in Japan.

Description

If you want to build practical Japanese skills quickly while experiencing daily life in Japan, Meiji Academy’s Short-Term Course is the perfect choice. This program is designed to help you not just study Japanese, but truly use it—connecting with locals and understanding Japan on a deeper level.

Unlike traditional schools that focus mainly on academic learning, Meiji Academy follows a Communicative Japanese approach, emphasizing real-life conversations, face-to-face interactions, and cultural experiences. Lessons are engaging, interactive, and taught in small groups of just 3–6 students, ensuring that every learner gets personal attention and plenty of speaking practice.

The Short-Term Course includes 20 lessons per week (4 lessons a day, Monday to Friday). Students develop all four language skills—speaking, listening, reading, and writing—while also practicing grammar through interactive exercises inside and outside the classroom. Once a solid foundation is built, students progress to learning and applying kanji, gaining the confidence to navigate Japan independently.

Course Highlights:

  • Flexible start dates: new courses begin every Monday year-round
  • Open to all levels, from beginner to advanced
  • Options to add specialized modules or private lessons for a tailored experience
  • Average class size of 3–6 students for personalized learning

Note: Knowledge of hiragana is required to join this course. For students who need support, Meiji Academy provides online resources to help you prepare before starting.

The Short-Term Course forms the foundation of all Meiji Academy study plans, making it the ideal entry point for anyone seeking to quickly improve their Japanese and maximize their time in Japan.
