ISI’s first campus was established in 1992 in Nagano, and over the years ISI has grown to become one of Japan’s largest Japanese language schools, opening another 4 schools in Tokyo and one in Kyoto, reaching over 3,000 students from over 110 countries. The ISI group also opened a university in Tokyo (Beijing Language and Culture University), as well as 2 vocational schools, one in Tokyo (Tokyo Business and Language College) and another in Nagano (Nagano Business and Language College).
Main Features
Four-year study plan
- The school is attached to a vocational college (Nagano Business and Language College), and upon graduation from the Japanese language course, students are given priority for admission to the vocational courses (Department of International Communication and Global Business) . After completing two years of Japanese language study, students can enroll in a two-year diploma course at a specialized school, and students can receive a total of four years of integrated education.

- The campus is home to both Japanese and international students studying for a specialist degree, so you will be able to interact with them a lot on campus and during out of school activities and cultural festivals.

At ISI Nagano, the Academic / General Japanese Course provides a supportive environment for students aiming to improve their Japanese, pursue higher education, or prepare for future careers. Enrollment is available twice a year, in April and October, following Japan’s standard academic calendar. Each class is assigned a dedicated homeroom teacher, ensuring students always have someone to consult about academics and daily life. Our comprehensive career support system includes regular interviews and guidance from specialized advisors, helping students with both university pathways and employment opportunities. From the Intermediate II level, students can choose elective classes such as JLPT and EJU exam prep, graduate school preparation, job hunting, and conversation, tailored to their individual goals. Along with meaningful cultural activities and exchanges, ISI Nagano offers a well-rounded learning experience in one of Japan’s most welcoming and scenic regions.
The Specified Skilled Workers’ Employment Support Program
The Specified Skilled Workers’ Employment Support Program is a special program that students can add to their General Japanese course. It is designed for people that want to obtain Specified Skilled Worker Visa type 1. Students will take internships and receive employment support throughout this program (8 different levels are offered from April and October enrollment so students from any Japanese level can join this program)

At ISI Nagano, the Short-Term General Japanese Course is ideal for students who wish to study Japanese for as little as two weeks, making it perfect for those on working holiday, spouse, or other short-term visas. The course systematically develops all four language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—while strengthening vocabulary and grammar according to each student’s level. Enrollment is available four times a year: April, July, October, and January. Absolute beginners are encouraged to start at the beginning of a term, while students with prior experience can join mid-term after taking a placement test. Classes are designed to help students make meaningful progress even in a short timeframe. Whether your goal is to experience Japanese culture, improve communication skills, or prepare for future studies, this course offers a flexible and effective way to learn in Nagano.

Description
At ISI Nagano, the Specified Skilled Workers’ Employment Support Program is designed for students who wish to work in Japan and obtain a Specified Skilled Worker (Type 1) visa. The program helps students acquire essential Japanese language skills and prepares them to pass the skills assessment test, enabling them to enter industries with active recruitment opportunities. Elective classes and an online Learning Management System (LMS) allow students to practice exam questions and become familiar with the test format. Our career center and specialized staff provide comprehensive guidance to ensure success in both the exam and job placement. We introduce students to part-time and full-time positions in the accommodation and food service industries, with plans to expand support to transportation and other sectors facing labor shortages. After passing the assessment and securing a job offer, we assist students in applying for a change of residence status so they can begin their career in Japan.
