About
AMPS (amps International Animation Academy) is a specialized anime and manga training school in Nakano, Tokyo. Its two-year, five-day-a-week programs cover Animation, Stop Motion and Manga. Teaching and admission tests require suitable Japanese; the school accepts admissions inquiries in English and Chinese.
Main Features
Animation training is linked to the on-site Pioneer Production studio. Manga teaching includes production skills and support in connecting with publishers. Employment or publication is not guaranteed.
Admission: 2027 Intakes
April and October intakes, 2 years. Applicants not needing student status must have completed compulsory education or above and possess Japanese sufficient for the course. Applicants needing student status must be at least 18, have completed 12 years of schooling and meet one of the published Japanese-language routes: JLPT N2 or above, EJU Japanese 200+, BJT 400+, at least one year at a notified Japanese-language institution, or one year at a qualifying Japanese school (excluding kindergarten). Confirm the applicable route and documents with AMPS.
Selection includes document screening, practical work, an individual interview and a Japanese test. For overseas applicants requiring a Certificate of Eligibility, the published deadlines are December 15, 2026 for April 2027 and June 15, 2027 for October 2027. Other applicants have March 31 and September 30, 2027 deadlines. Vacancies and individual processing must be confirmed; admission does not guarantee a visa.
The guide recommends an optional junior-college degree pathway for certain applicants planning employment in Japan, at an additional JPY 200,000–250,000 per year in the 2027 guide. It is not included in the AMPS school fees below, nor an automatic degree from completing the AMPS program. Confirm eligibility, provider and graduation requirements separately.

Training in animation drawing, character work, production, direction, digital processes and portfolio development.

Stop Motion Major
Stop-motion production, modeling, painting, molds and 3D modeling, combining traditional animation with contemporary techniques.
