School Introduction

The Hokkaido Japanese Language School is located in the center of Sapporo, a 5-minute walk from Sapporo and Odori Stations, making it convenient for transportation. The City of Sapporo is surrounded by the beautful nature of Hokkaido, and being the biggest city in Hokkaido, it has many shopping centers, cafes, and delicious restaurants, providing memorable and interesting life experiences to all students who attend this school. The Hokkaido Japanese Language School is not a specialized exam school, but rather a Japanese language school specializing in short-term study abroad, with every Monday being admission day and every Friday being graduation day, allowing students the ability to adjust their admission and study times, in accordance with our school policy. The aim of the courses is to help students remember Japanese naturally, and in this way has attracted a variety of people ranging from high school and university students while taking a break from their studies, company employees during vacation time, retired people, thus forming a unique student body with people aged anywhere from 14 to 60+. Since its founding in April 2012, the school has always received good feedback from its students, with 10% of its students returning to the school for further studies. Teachers, staff and students tend to form a close and friendly bond, and enjoy time conversing on campus in a notable collective living room, where students can also feel comfortably at home. At the end of the course, teachers often give students a Graduation Album with many all of the images taken during their study with their newly-founded friends.

Main Features

Dynamic class style
Each class has a maximum of 6 people, a minimum of 3 people. At all levels, the lesson focuses on conversation, with plenty of conversation and freedom to ask questions to teachers. At the elementary level, students start with regular conversation, with content that is designed so that the student can apply the vocabulary learned that day. At the intermediate level, students achieve a good level of listening and reading comprehension. In addition to class time, students also actively interact with local people in the area, such that even those who were afraid to communicate prior to the program demonstrate significantly increased confidence to do so at the Hokkaido Japanese Language School.
Diverse activities
The school organizes various kinds of activities, such as seasonal festivals, cultural experiences, exchange events, tours, and culinary activities. Specific examples include: the Mochi Festival on New Year, a visit to Hokkaido temple, the Sapporo Snow Festival, Neon Lights, and a Hokkaido ski experience. In the spring & summer, there is the Soran Yosakoi Festival, the Sapporo Festival, Anime Festival, and sailing experiences to be enjoyed. In addition, throughout the year, students learn Japanese experientially through activities such as making ice cream, riding horses, experiencing animal agriculture, going fruit-picking, experiencing agricultural work, fishing, watching movies, and going on various foodie tours including coffee, sushi, and ramen.
Comprehensive student support
The school supports various accommodation types depending on the needs of the student, such as homestay, hotel, share houses, and weekly inns. In particular, homestay hosts are directly contracted & regularly visited by school staff, who ensure a quality living environment. The school also arranges support staff in case of an emergency so students can be assured of 24-hour assistance should they need it.

The school has a movie theater, wifi room, library, and sports room, accessible outside school hours, as well as a quiet lounge space equipped with coffee that students can freely use.

The school has created a “friendship program” with bringing together friendly & open-minded Hokkaido people with students as a way to make friends with local people.
